Breath

Samuel Fuyumi Namioka

[…] realizes a big painting covered by black holes which are presented as if they were sucked down in the back of the painting. They manifest their unsettling empty presence between the very colored painting’s surface. The title is quite telling: Breath – but it is like this breath would destroy the work causing the corruption of the historical element. The presence of such holes hints to the space behind the painting, the space hidden and mysterious which brings back to the special concept of Lucio Fontana.

Work presented at the Artists Vineyard Prize (City of Florence) where it gets a special mention. Realised in collaboration with Tommaso Iuliano with the pseudonym of Thomas Anthony, the work was exhibited in two more occasions in 2006 and then bought by the F.R.A.C. – Museum of Contemporary Art of Baronissi (City of Salerno).
